Gallery .NO, a non-profit, artist-run gallery now opening on the Lower East Side, is proud to launch with THE NORTH STARS: BLUE, WHITE and RED, our inaugural series of three exhibitions presenting the work of 28 contemporary artists from Norway. All leading lights of the contemporary Norwegian art scene acknowledged with numerous awards and grants, the remaining participants to be presented throughout March and April are Ane Graff, Björn Hegardt, Lotte Konow Lund, Finn Graff, Hanne Lydia Opøien Kristoffersen, Kristin Skrivervik, Lars Strandh, Anki King, Marit Victoria Wulff Andreassen, Eli Skomsø, and Marianne Darlén Solhaugstrand. Kjetil Skøien will contribute both 2D work and a stage piece, as will the internationally touring performance artists Agnes Nerdregård, Anne-Marte Eidseth Rygh, and Tone Gellein.

This inaugural series has been made possible thanks to generous support by the Office of Contemporary Art Norway, the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in NYC, and the Fearnley Astrup Foundation.

29th of August Performance Lecture at Urban Research Theatre Manhattan, NYC.

BODY IS CAMERA: The lecture is an interactive introduction to performance art history and process. Through documentation and action I will talk about the early movement from 1930 s that influenced the art expression which was publicly recognised in the 70s and practised today in a broad and varied form. Performance art was originally motivated by a political engagement and a time specific. Today the overall work produced is not necessarily involved in politics and often motivated by entertainment. Can it still be called performance art?  Through introducing the aspect of rituals and tasks I also discuss the various borders of definition between theatre and performance art. By the presence of the audience which I call participators the lecture is defined through our discussions and interactions. We also choose one exclusive perspective and attempt to take a photo containing the ephemeral. The audience are invited to come back one month later to see and discuss the outcome of these experiments.
